A venue switch for the Australian Steeplechase is expected to work in favour of talented jumper King Triton.
The Steeplechase meeting has been transferred to Ballarat on Sunday as work continues on a rennovation of the Sandown racetrack.
Trainer Pat Hyland is certain Ballarat will be a better fit for King Triton in the $100,000 race over 3400m because it is less undulating than Sandown.
And despite King Triton winning on the testing Oakbank track and racing well at Warrnambool, Hyland says a flatter course will be more the jumper's liking.
King Triton won a steeplechase at Oakbank in March last year and at his latest outing was a closing third to Thubiaan in the Brierly Steeplechase at Warrnambool.
"I'm not disappointed the races aren't at Sandown because I think Ballarat will suit him better," Hyland said.
"He's gone around Morphettville (perfectly) and that's where he's won most of his money."
King Triton won successive steeplechase races at Morphettville last year after being a two-time winner over hurdles at the track before switching to bigger jumps.
King Triton trialled on the flat over 1550m at Cranbourne last Monday.
"I ride him in work every day and he's been going very well," Hyland said.
Tom Ryan was aboard King Triton in the barrier trial and picked up the race ride on Saturday when Steven Pateman could not make 65kg.
