Luke Nolen has a high opinion of Kinglike, the Peter Moody-trained colt who scored an impressive win at Moonee Valley on Saturday.
Nolen was having his first race ride on Kinglike after Linda Meech rode the colt to a debut second behind stablemate Bassett at Caulfield.
Inexperience didn't help Kinglike at Caulfield but he was on his best behaviour after settling behind the speed before taking a split in the straight to win the Charter Keck Cramer Handicap.
Sent out the $3 favourite, Kinglike scored a 1-1/2 length win over Prestwick ($6.50).
Nolen said there was still improvement to come from the two-year-old.
"The horse is not the finished product at this stage and that's the exciting thing about him," Nolen said.
"I worked him on Tuesday morning and he gave me a hell of a time, but he's improved a lot even from Tuesday.
"If he continues on this tangent hopefully we'll be reaping the benefits further on."
Stephanie Little, representing the Moody stable, said it was decided before the race to send Kinglike to the spelling paddock and there would be no reason to to change that plan.
Bassett had been sent to Brisbane to contest the JJ Atkins at Doomben next Saturday.
