An all-the-way win by Press Statement at Rosehill may not be enough to sway trainer Chris Waller to run him in the final Group One race of the season for two-year-olds.
The colt was elevated to $6 equal favouritism for the JJ Atkins (1600m) at Doomben following his home-track win on Saturday.
Waller's racing manager Liam Prior said the decision would be left to the trainer although Press Statement's owners would naturally like to see him emulate his half-brother Pressday, winner of the Atkins five years ago.
"The boss and the owners will make up their minds over the next couple of days," Prior said.
"Obviously his brother did it but it's a big step up and he has to come through the race well to consider running him in seven days.
"He has a lot of improvement in him and will be even better as a three-year-old."
Although it was not the plan to lead, Jim Cassidy made an early decision to go to the front on the $1.80 favourite.
Shards ($9) tracked Press Statement all the way but the leader still had plenty in hand at the end of the race, winning by half a length.
So Willie ($3.50), also trained by Waller, was another four lengths third.
"I didn't want to lead but I decided to take the minuses out of the race," Cassidy said.
"Without doubt this colt can measure up to the other two-year-olds if that's what Chris wants to do."
