Travis Wolfgram will take a step closer to a possible full-time Sydney move when the apprentice has his first ride for Tulloch Lodge at Canterbury on Wednesday.

Wolfgram is on loan to trainer Gai Waterhouse as he weighs up his future after emerging as one of Queensland's most promising apprentices.

He has been riding out of Randwick after relocating at the start of the Brisbane winter carnival, but he has been kept back from the races to give him time to adjust to an often hectic Sydney racing schedule.

"Gai just wanted to let him settle in first, let him take it all in and tomorrow is the day," Tulloch Lodge spokesman Mark Newnham said.

"His idea was to come down while the carnival was on up there, see how he liked it, see whether he thought there was a future in staying for a while.

"He does (see a future) and hopefully we can get him away on a good note."

Wolfgram will claim 2kg on the Waterhouse-trained High Profile in the TAB Place Multi Plate (1550m).

Bred on staying lines, High Profile is resuming after figuring in the placings at his only two provincial starts.

"He has been given plenty of time after having a couple of runs previously and he's going in fit and well," Newnham said.

Wolfgram has ridden High Profile in two Randwick barrier trials, the latest when the three-year-old figured in a three-way finish over 1200m on May 25.

Newnham expects Wolfgram to make the most of his opportunity despite Sydney's reputation as an uncompromising market for a jockey.

"He's a really willing, hard-working young man with ability so there's no reason why he won't make a success of it," Newnham said.

The 20-year-old, the son of former well-known Queensland jockey Phillip Wolfgram, won last season's Gold Coast premiership and he has ridden 30 metropolitan winners in 2014-15.

He can ride six more city winners before his claim is reduced to 1.5kg.
