Pat Carey has been sneaking under the radar with a steady stream of winners.

A double at Moonee Valley late last month was followed by another double at Mornington's metropolitan meeting on Monday.

On Wednesday, Carey heads to Flemington where he will saddle three runners, including one which was scratched from his home track on Monday.

Shakespearean Lass lines up in the Racing Live And Free Handicap (1200m) with Rhys McLeod in the saddle.

A last-start winner of a Cranbourne maiden, Carey withdrew Shakespearean Lass from her 1000m Mornington engagement after drawing barrier 12 in a 14-horse field.

"She drew awkwardly on Monday and I think it would have presented problems," Carey said.

"I'm not saying she wouldn't have been up to the task but it's an awkward draw from that start.

"The risk is you get posted or do a lot of work."

He is hoping the rise to 1200m and going to Flemington on Wednesday will be an advantage for the daughter of Written Tycoon.

"She's had a few races under her now and it's a good test for her," Carey said.

"And without knowing the weather you would expect Flemington to provide reasonable ground."

Carey saddles Elle Excite in the Racing Live Anywhere, Anytime Handicap and is hoping the addition of ear muffs and the 3kg claim of apprentice Lisa Whelan will spark her back into form.

He said the mare, a first-up winner at Pakenham in April, is racing three to four lengths below her best.

"We've changed some gear, put a three-kilo apprentice on and all I'm doing is trying to cultivate a win," he said.

His third runner Blue Eyes lines up in the #MelbCupCarnival On Sale Handicap.

A sister to Australian Derby winner Ethiopia, Carey said Blue Eyes' future was in the breeding barn.

"We spent her three-year-old career chasing black type and she was respectable without winning, but we need to frank her form with a win," he said.
