Promising I'm Hector is on trial for a start in the Grafton Cup when he contests the $100,000 Winter Provincial Stayer Series Final at Ipswich on Saturday.
I'm Hector won a heat of the series at the Gold Coast two starts back and then wasn't suited by the way the race was run when unplaced in another qualifier at the Sunshine Coast.
Trainer Desleigh Forster is confident I'm Hector will develop into a top-line stayer.
"He has done a great job for his first campaign and he is still learning," Forster said.
"If he races well on Saturday we will probably press on to the Grafton Cup.
"If not he will go for a spell and we will bring him back later this year."
Owner Judy Wanless bred I'm Hector is who by shuttle sire Teofilo out of the Centaine mare Iamwoman.
Wanless and Forster also have In Masquerade in the final.
The mare, who won a heat of the series at Gatton, was also bred by Wanless, being by top staying sire Pentire out of the former smart racemare Cuphill.
Michael Cahill will ride I'm Hector while Robbie Fradd is on In Masquerade.
