Trainer Toby Edmonds has had one of his most successful seasons yet, due in no small part to horses raced by Segenhoe Stud.
The former Sydney trainer is now based at the Gold Coast and will saddle up Bound For Earth on his home track hoping to cap the year with a Group One win for Segenhoe's famous red and yellow colours in the Tattersall's Tiara (1400m).
In the past 18 months, Edmonds has prepared about 35 winners for Segenhoe and overall this season has led in more than 40 winners, 22 at metropolitan level.
The Edmonds-Segenhoe combination went close to a Group One win when Sagaronne ran second to Press Statement in the JJ Atkins Stakes two weeks ago.
The trainer's son and foreman, Trent Edmonds, said the stable would like nothing more than to get a Group One winner for Segenhoe to repay the stud's support.
He said Bound For Earth, who will be having her second start for the stable after doing her early racing in Sydney, firstly for John O'Shea and then David Vandyke, had worked well since her third in the Group Two Dane Ripper Stakes.
"She has some wet-track form and worked well in the soft going this week. She is drawn in barrier eight which should suit her, so we are hopeful," Edmonds said.
Stradbroke Handicap winner Srikandi is the TAB's $3.80 favourite for the fillies and mares' race, the final Group One race of the season.
Dane Ripper winner Hazard is an $18 chance with co-trainer Lee Freedman hoping the track continues to improve to give the mare her best chance while Bound For Earth is at $26.
Many of the Tiara runners will head to the broodmare barn in the new season and Edmonds said that could be the case for Bound For Earth but there were still race options.
"She might go to stud but there are races like the Myer Classic in the spring which could suit her," he said.
Bound For Earth already has a valuable pedigree as a daughter of the late Northern Meteor out of 2002 VRC Oaks winner Bulla Borghese.
"Obviously a Group One win would add further to her value," Edmonds said.
In-form jockey Tim Bell takes the ride on Bound For Earth, replacing the suspended Blake Shinn.
