Schofield in box seat for Criterion ride

Thursday 25 June 2015, 6:44am

Chad Schofield is likely to get the chance at another big race ride in the United Kingdom.

The Juddmonte International at York on August 19 is a target for Criterion before he returns to Australia.

Schofield has been spending the Australian winter in England and will take up a contract in Hong Kong in the new season.

He rode Criterion to fifth in the Prince Of Wales's Stakes at Royal Ascot last week.

Co-trainer David Hayes said Schofield was the obvious choice for Criterion in the Juddmonte, ranked as the best race in the world by the International Federation of Horseracing Authorities.

Previous winners include Australia, Frankel and Sea The Stars.

"If Chad is still there in England he'll probably ride him, otherwise we'll work something out later," Hayes said.

Schofield is gaining recognition worldwide and will partner The Conglomerate in South Africa's premier race, the Durban July at Greyville, early next month.

Criterion will return to Australia with the first shipment of international horses coming for the Melbourne spring carnival and be aimed at the Cox Plate.
