The chance to build confidence in a young colt has been the impetus behind Chris Waller's decision to give Vanbrugh a late-winter campaign.
The youngster will resume in the McGrath Estate Agents Handicap at Rosehill on Saturday in a race that could be a stepping stone towards more significant targets in the spring.
"He's potentially a carnival horse racing at a winter Saturday meeting," Waller said.
"I like to bring them back and give them a bit of confidence before the good horses come back.
"Sometimes a horse like him can fit into the better races."
Vanbrugh has raced twice for a debut win at Randwick in February and a sound fifth to Godolphin's Tarquin in the Group Two Pago Pago Stakes.
He looked good winning a recent barrier trial when he quickened late and he has the in-form Blake Shinn on board.
The Paul Perry-trained Surfin' Safari, a last start winner at Warwick Farm, heads early betting at $3.50, ahead of Vanbrugh at $4.60.
Waller will also start $8 chance Labdien, a progressive filly who won her only start at Warwick Farm in March.
