Actuariat will have to overcome a wide barrier if he's to win at Caulfield but trainer Greg Eurell believes it's not beyond him.
Actuariat resumes from a let-up in Saturday's 1400m race for three-year-olds after placing in Listed grade in Adelaide at his two most recent starts.
The son of Domesday has the second widest barrier and Eurell concedes jockey Steven Arnold is likely to have to ride a patient race early.
Actuariat got back from a good gate at Flemington in April and came from third last on the turn to win which Eurell has taken heart from.
"The time when he won over 1400 metres at Flemington he got back quite a distance and produced a long, sustained run," Eurell said.
"I wouldn't like to see him that far back at Caulfield but I think we're going to just have to ride him patiently and he seems to be a horse that appreciates that and still can run home strongly.
"Had he drawn a bit more favourably you could probably take a better position, but I suppose knowing what he did at Flemington that day gives you a bit of confidence that the barrier is not destroying his chances by any means.
"It probably just makes it a bit more difficult, but he is a horse that can sustain a long, enduring run."
Eurell expects Actuariat to run well and said it would be ideal if he could land in a midfield position with cover.
The Cranbourne trainer felt Actuariat needed a short break after his Adelaide starts.
"He's freshened up well and he seems to be in really good order," he said.
Actuariat is at $6.50 with last-start Moonee Valley winner Raposo the $4.20 favourite.
Duke Of Brunswick, winner of his past two starts, is at $5.50 along with stablemate Volcanic Ash.
