He may not be in the top echelon at Godolphin, but Haussmann has earned star billing for at least a day with victory in the Civic Stakes at Rosehill.
Before Saturday, the gelding had only won one race since John O'Shea took over Sheikh Mohammed's Australian operation more than a year ago.
The betting reflected his modest form with Haussmann drifting from $10 to $15 in the Listed Civic Stakes (1350m) with last-start Group Three winner Dothraki the well supported $2.50 favourite.
Two Blue ($6.50), backing up from her Rosehill win a week earlier, took the lead mid-race and was holding off all challengers until Haussmann snuck up on her inside.
In the battle to the line, Haussmann outgunned the mare to deny apprentice Winona Costin a stakes win on Two Blue by half a neck.
See The World ($11) did best of the rest to finish another 2-1/2 lengths third.
"I though `oh no' when he went up the rail but it proved to be the right move," O'Shea said.
"He's flying at the moment although he is suspect beyond much further than 1350 or 1400 metres."
Christian Reith rode the winner after Tim Clark could not make the 54kg Haussmann carried.
"Two Blue wobbled a bit on the turn so I took advantage of that to go up the inside," Reith said.
Haussmann's next target is the Listed Winter Stakes (1400m) back at Rosehill in two weeks to try to emulate stablemate Generalife's double of last year.
Two Blue's trainer Kristen Buchanan said that race was also the likely aim for the mare.
"As long as she pulls up well, we will look at that race," Buchanan said.
"She has won over 1500 metres before so she is not purely a sprinter.
"I would love to get black type for her.
"She almost got there today but when I saw the horse come up on her inside I knew we were in trouble.
"But she still gave 110 per cent and it was a great ride from Winona."
