Matthew Dunn will consider a Sydney trip for Dram Of Red after the two-year-old exceeded his trainer's expectations with an impressive win at Doomben on Saturday.
Dram Of Red, the $3.40 favourite, cruised to the lead and was never seriously challenged, beating Privlaka ($10) by 1-3/4 lengths in the Dimi Caramalis Buck's Day Handicap (1100m).
Dunn intended to continue Dram Of Red's juvenile's campaign in Brisbane where he is eligible for QTIS bonus money.
However, the nature of his Doomben win has forced the trainer into a rethink.
"I said before the race he would have to do something exceptional for us to consider changing our plans," Dunn said.
"But he did something special today because I think he has lengths improvement in him.
"We will have to look at Sydney now as there will be plenty of races for him there."
Jockey Jim Byrne, who completed a winning double on Dram Of Red after taking out the opening race aboard Satirical Lass, said the gelding settled well when he found the lead.
"He is a nice horse with a bright future," Byrne said.
Meanwhile, trainer Rob Heathcote's determination to buy stayer Kaiser Franz paid dividends when the gelding scored his first metropolitan win in the Sky Racing Hcp (2200m).
Heathcote went to the New Zealand yearling sales to buy the son of Savabeel but his plan almost came unstuck.
"I was looking at another yearling when he went through the sale ring," Heathcote said.
"I eventually got him for $85,000 in a private deal with the woman who originally bought him.
"Kaiser Franz can still do a few things wrong but he is a stayer of potential."
