Promising sprinter Denarius is set to finish his three-year-old season on a high after recovering from a knock on the head.
The gelding lunged at the starting gates and struck his head before a race at the Sunshine Coast two weeks ago.
He was passed fit and eventually finished fourth after a slow start.
Denarius has again been vetted and given the all-clear to contest Saturday's Global Transport Insurance 3YO (1200m) at Doomben.
Wakefield was overseas at the time of the incident but said Denarius appeared to have recovered.
"Apparently, the horse drawn outside him kicked the gate and Denarius must have felt the gates were opening because he lunged at them and struck his head," Wakefield said.
"I reckon he would have had a good headache for a couple of days and lucky he wasn't a footballer. But he seems to have recovered and he is drawn to get a nice run on Saturday."
"The only problem is you often don't know how horses will react at their next start after an incident like that. We will just have to keep our fingers crossed until they jump."
Denarius has been a most consistent two and three-year-old for Wakefield picking up a total of $174,000 which includes $63,000 in QTIS bonus payments.
"Like many of the three-year-olds who are 1200 to 1400 metre horses this is his last chance to pick up a Saturday QTIS bonus," Wakefield said.
"It means there is a capacity field and you always need luck in those types of races."
