Chris Waller has decided to run Instrumentalist first-up at Flemington in preference to Rosehill.
Instrumentalist has been scratched from the Listed Winter Stakes at Rosehill to run in the Bruce Gadsden Handicap over 1400m.
It will be the gelding's first run since he won the 2014 Mornington Cup over 2400m.
Injury put Instrumentalist on the sidelines after that victory guaranteed the now six-year-old a shot at last year's Caulfield Cup.
In deciding to send Instrumentalist south, Waller noted his good form in Melbourne where he has won three of his four starts.
"He goes well in the Melbourne stable," Waller said.
"He's won the Mornington Cup down there and he'll be there for the early part of the spring.
"He might be able to win another nice race down there."
Stablemate Diametric has been scratched from Bruce Gadsden Handicap after drawing barrier 17 and will run in the Winter Stakes.
Instrumentalist has had three barrier trials at Rosehill to prepare for his racetrack return and is currently a $61 chance with Charmed Harmony the $2.75 favourite.
