Track officials are confident Sandown racecourse is ready for its scheduled return to racing next month after a series of jump-outs.
Sandown has been out of action since April after the surface was widely criticised by jockeys, trainers and chief steward Terry Bailey because of heavy thatch which prevented horses getting traction.
The Lakeside and Hillside tracks have undergone remedial work in recent months and a series of jump-outs went ahead on Tuesday in preparation for the meeting on August 5.
"The jockeys' feedback was good," Melbourne Racing Club track manager Jason Kerr said.
"We're going to go back on to a surface where there's going to be some divoting the first meetings back, it's just that time of year.
"But we'll certainly be having the four (scheduled) meetings and then getting another renovation into it and the first day back after that will be Sandown Classic day in November."
Sandown is set to host three meetings in August and one in early September.
Jockey Steven Arnold said he was happy with the surface on Tuesday.
Half of the 12 jump-outs were from the 1000m chute and finished in the home straight while the other jump-outs were on the back straight.
"I was quite happy with it," Arnold said.
"Horses were getting good footing which was the main thing.
"It just chopped out a little bit towards the end but it was pretty good, and the trials on the back straight, they weren't divoting much at all.
"I thought the ground was safe today so I would be happy to ride on it."
