Golden Slipper winner Phelan Ready may be retired but stablemate Facile Tigre will continue to race until his form falls away.
The two have been in the Jason McLachlan yard since they were bought as two-year-olds and when they are both retired will head to England together to start a new career as dressage horses.
That won't happen until the often unlucky Facile Tigre tires of the track though.
While the nine-year-old has won eight races and almost $500,000 prize money, his best win coming in a Listed sprint race at Flemington, his feats have been overshadowed by those of Phelan Ready, who in 2009 won the Magic Millions-Golden Slipper double.
McLachlan is adamant Facile Tigre should have a Group win to his name.
"Facile Tigre never seemed to have things go his way. He has run a second and a third in the Group One Oakleigh Plates at Caulfield," McLachlan said.
"In one of those he came from a very wide barrier and in the other he had no luck in the run."
Facile Tigre was originally raced by a syndicate which bought him for $120,000 but in recent years he has been owned by McLachlan's mother Lorraine and stable client Bill Harris.
Lorraine McLachlan and Harris also raced Phelan Ready in his latter years.
"Bill lives in England and the plan has always been to send both Phelan Ready and Facile Tigre to England to retire as dressage horses," McLachlan said.
"They are both lovely types and I am sure will make nice dressage horses.
"But while Phelan Ready is retired in the paddock, Facile Tigre is still racing well.
"So Phelan Ready will wait for him before leaving so they can travel together."
Facile Tigre, who has run solid fourths at his past two starts, will contest an Open handicap (1350m) at Doomben on Saturday.
"There is no reason he can't win on Saturday. He is still enjoying racing and he is sound. As soon as we get any indication that he is tired of racing we will retire him," McLachlan said.
"After all, Phelan Ready and Facile Tigre have been great for us and we won't take any risks with them."
Facile Tigre is the last horse trained by McLachlan's late father Bruce McLachlan still in training.
"It will be sad when Phelan Ready and Facile Tigre are both gone. I am so used to seeing them around the stables and they are a last link with dad," McLachlan said.
"Dad picked them out as yearlings and right from the start predicted they would be top gallopers."
