Consistent sprinter Le Bonsir makes a return to racing after a freshen-up, looking to break his maiden status on the Flemington straight course.
The Mick Price-trained eight-year-old lines-up in the Group Three Aurie's Star Handicap (1200m) where he is pitted against dual Group One-winner Trust In A Gust who is also resuming.
While Le Bonsir is winless in seven attempts at Flemington, his last three runs over the straight 1200m course have resulted in second placings, the latest of which was in Listed company behind Lumosty in May.
After that performance the gelding had one more outing before a break, finishing 12th behind Smackdown in the Gold Topaz at Swan Hill in June.
Price said the gelding has trialled nicely for his return and is expecting Le Bonsir to run his usual honest race.
"He's fresh after a little break, he's been placed there but it's a long time since he's won," Price said.
"His form is as good as we can get it and he's at that age and stage that the 54 (kilograms) suits.
"He's had a trial and was good and he'll run his usual honest prizemoney winning race."
Having not been successful since winning in Listed grade at Moonee Valley in September 2013, Price has no long term plans for gelding.
He said the gelding needed to be placed right and is capable of winning, but doesn't see the improvement to take on a better class coming suddenly.
Price will also saddle debut Geelong winner Downhearted in the Elizabeth Dunkley & Jason Lee Handicap (1400m) with a view to heading to Queensland early next year.
"He's in a very tough race," Price said.
"He's still learning, but the horse has worked well, he's improved since he raced and he's a Magic Millions horse.
"I'd love to earn some prizemoney and then re-time him for the Magic Millions 1400 metres in January.
"That's the aim and with the all-girl crew, the pressure is on."
