Veteran trainer Bryan Guy continued one of the best winning runs of his career when Planet America gave him his eighth victory in a fortnight on Wednesday.
Gold Coast based Guy, a multiple Group One winner, is a former Brisbane premiership-winning trainer but has cut back his team to about 25 horses in recent years.
However, he has rarely had a run of success to match his current burst which began when Buon Auspicio won at Doomben on July 22.
He has since won with Amata (Gold Coast), Polynikes (Doomben), Fogoso (Ipswich), Go Better (Gold Coast), I'm Alone (Gold Coast), Grecian Burner (Sunshine Cost) and Planet America (Sunshine Coast).
"It is obviously great to get some winners and it has been a case of the right horses in the right races," Guy said.
Guy believes the win of Planet America ($2.60 favourite) in the Yalumba Hcp (1200m) on Wednesday was a just reward because the gelding was rated a certainty beaten at his previous start.
"He drew barrier one at the Gold Coast, then got caught on the fence in the straight and basically never got out. He deserved to win today."
Planet America, who cost $85,000 as a yearling, is raced by leading Brisbane businessman Ron Wanless and solicitor Joe Ganim.
Ganim is best known in racing as a partner in the champion sprinter of the 1980-90s Planet Ruler while Wanless has had dozens of winners including 2001 Victoria Derby winner Amalfi.
"Ron and Joe are racing two horses by All America - Planet America and American Hero - who both show ability," he said.
The training partnership of John, Dan and Chris Meagher also continued their recent good run when Havana Cigar ($2.10) won the XXXX Gold Hcp (1600m).
Havana Cigar gave the Meagher's their fourth winner from their past six runners.
"It was a great training effort because the horse hadn't started since late June and was stepping up to 1600m," said winning jockey Matt McGuren.
Trainer Kelly Schweida was another to continue a good run when Outraged ($3.60) won the Caloundra Chamber of Commerce Hcp (1800m).
"Outraged has had no luck in recent starts _ just about everything has gone wrong. He really deserved that win," Schweida said.
Premier trainer Tony Gollan continued his winning association with the Cressfield syndicate when former NSW galloper Conquer ($2.30) came from last to win the Coastline BMW Hcp (1000m).
