Tony McEvoy has called on the services of Damien Oliver to partner some of his Melbourne-bound team in barrier trials at Morphettville on Friday.
Oliver will partner Alpine Eagle, Bull Point, Sysmo, Big Memory and Don't Doubt Mamma in trials over 1000m.
Alpine Eagle was ridden by Oliver when he won the Autumn Classic (1800m) at Caulfield in February before running a close second at his most recent outing under Douglas Whyte in the Australian Guineas (1600m) at Flemington on March 7.
McEvoy said Alpine Eagle was progressing nicely although he is yet to finalise when and where the son of High Chaparral will have his first-up run.
"I want to see how he pulls up after this," McEvoy said.
"He's a different horse now and he's put on so much more weight.
"How he pulls up and how he recovers from this trial will tell me where he runs first time out."
McEvoy has 17 horses entered to trial on Friday and said Oliver was primarily heading to Adelaide to ride Alpine Eagle.
However he was taking the opportunity to put him on some of his other Melbourne spring hopefuls.
"He said he'd ride four or five for us," McEvoy said.
"We've put him on some horses that will be going to Melbourne so when I ring up to see if he wants to ride them and he doesn't then I'll know they haven't trialled that well, or he's got something better.
"I offered him the ride on Jacksay (at Flemington) on Saturday and I notice he's taken the ride on the first starter (Most Wanted) of John Sadler's, which is a bit of a push for it."
