Rocky King is a star at the Sunshine Coast where he has won his last two starts but take him away from his home to Doomben and it's a different story.
In nine starts at the track the son of Easy Rocking has only saluted once, in a benchmark race in December 2013.
Trainer Tom Bourke was at a loss as to why his star charge struggled at the track.
"Doomben is the track where he does things wrong. I don't know why but it is just the way things have turned out," Bourke said.
Since his lone Doomben win it has been slim pickings for Rocky King at the city track where his five ensuing runs include a last in the Group Three George Moore Stakes and a down-the-track performance in an open handicap.
However, this preparation he has managed two minor placings and a fourth over 1050m at Doomben and Bourke is confident the horse can break his recent Doomben drought this week.
Bourke said the presence of Sydney speedster Kencella, who has drawn just inside Rocky King, could present his horse with the perfect cart into the race.
At his first start for Pride, Kencella led before tiring to finish third to Brook Road in the July Sprint at Canterbury last month.
"If he (Kencella) is as quick as they say, we might be able to get across and get a sit on them," Bourke said.
"Rocky King doesn't have to lead as he has won up to 1300 metres when able to sit up on the pace."
Rocky King is likely to be spelled after Saturday's race and brought back with the Magic Millions Sprint in January as his main aim.
Apprentice Brooke Stower will ride Rocky King on Saturday with one of the gelding's other regular riders Tegan Harrison returning from a short suspension to be reunited with one of her favourite horses Queen Of The Lochs.
"Tegan has won four races on Queen Of The Lochs and obviously handles her well," trainer Mick Mair said.
Queen Of The Lochs is a noted fresh horse having won twice first-up from a spell and three times second-up.
