Apprentice Luke Tarrant showed he was intent on again being a jockeys' premiership force with a clever win on Grenache at Doomben on Saturday.
Tarrant finished second in last season's senior premiership after missing much of the 12 months through suspensions and interstate commitments.
He returned from a four-week suspension with a winner at the Sunshine Coast on Wednesday and followed it up on Grenache in the St Vincents Palliative Care Handicap (1050m).
Grenache ($7.50), which gave trainer Bryan Guy his 10 winner in the past 16 days, was supposed to be ridden by apprentice Ruby Ride.
Ride broke her pelvis in a parade-ring fall at Ipswich on Friday and Guy booked Tarrant as a replacement.
Tarrant made full use of the inside barrier to trail the speed and then burst into the clear at the 250m.
"I feel sorry for Ruby," Guy said.
"It is terrible luck. But Luke certainly was an able replacement. It was a great ride."
Jockey Tegan Harrison was replaced on trainer Tony Gollan's star Temple Of Boom in the Missile Stakes at Randwick but she reminded the premier trainer of her ability with a win on Bentles.
Harrison rode a double for Gollan at Ipswich on Friday and continued the run with an all-the-way win in the St Vincent's Blue Angels Handicap (1600m).
Stable foreman John Fleming said Bentles was well bred and had continued to improve with racing.
Bentles has been with Gollan for three runs and has now won two races for the stable.
