Can Boban win the Memsie Stakes?
"Bloody oath," is the emphatic answer from his usually conservative trainer Chris Waller.
Sydney's premier trainer is decidedly bullish about the chances of Boban coming up trumps in a richly talented Memsie Stakes field at Caulfield on Saturday.
A hot-and-cold galloper, Boban struggled for form last spring and autumn but was back to his best during a two-start winter campaign which netted a win in the Doomben 10,000 and a brave second under a big weight in the Stradbroke Handicap.
Waller will follow a similar template with Boban this spring and says the confidence the horse gained in Queensland has him back in a winning frame of mind.
"I've followed an almost identical path to what we did in the winter when he came off a short break and went first-up into a 1400 metre race off two trials," Waller said.
"His two runs in Queensland were sensational and that's enough to get a horse like him back in form.
"He's no stranger to this stage."
Waller will also start Weary in the first Group One race of the season but is wary a wide draw and firm track might come against the Missile Stakes placegetter at Caulfield.
