Guineas on radar for Don't Doubt Mamma

Sunday 8 November 2015, 2:21pm

Tony McEvoy is keen to test Don't Doubt Mamma again at 1600 metres in the Group Two Sandown Guineas.

Don't Doubt Mamma is unbeaten in two starts over 1400 metres and has finished strongly both times, but between those wins she was beaten more than four lengths in the Edward Manifold Stakes over 1600m.

She will also be nominated for the Listed Twilight Glow (1400m) against her own sex at Sandown on Saturday but the $250,000 Sandown Guineas is the favoured option after the filly's impressive Melbourne Cup day win at Flemington.

"I want to see her again at a mile. I believe she'll run a mile," McEvoy said.

"There's the two races at Sandown. There's the Twilight Glow where she'll get the penalty or the Sandown Guineas where she gets in very well, so I'm a bit keen to go to the Guineas and take on the boys.

"I'll have her (nominated) in both races. She was really impressive on Tuesday and she's come out of that race magnificently."

Don't Doubt Mamma was ridden quietly at Flemington in Tuesday's 1400m event for fillies before cruising into the race and sprinting away for a two-length win.

McEvoy believes there may have been a reason she didn't perform in the Manifold Stakes.

"It was either the firm ground or it's possible she didn't run the mile. But when you see her explode like she did on Tuesday you'd be amazed, ridden like that, if she wouldn't run a mile," McEvoy said.

"So I'd like to find out now and then we know for next year where to aim her."

McEvoy is also set to have Into The Mist in the Summoned Stakes for mares and Sasenkile in the Listed Sandown Cup over 3200m.

Sasenkile finished seventh to De Little Engine in the 2800m race on Melbourne Cup day.

"Joao Moreira got off the other day and said 'further the better', and that was after 2800 metres," McEvoy said.

"He didn't have much luck the other day, he just couldn't quite get clear and Moreira thought he would have run right in the finish had he got a bit more luck."
