Robbie Laing is banking on the recuperative powers of The Grey Flash and a shorter trip when the filly contests a Group Two race at Sandown.
A last-start sixth behind Jameka in the VRC Oaks at Flemington, The Grey Flash is coming back from 2500m to 1600m in the Sandown Guineas on Saturday.
Laing said the filly had freshened up nicely and thinks her best trip is around the Guineas distance.
And Laing is of the belief that three-year-olds can come back from longer distances and be competitive over a shorter trip.
The Grey Flash wasn't taxed leading up to the 2500m of the Oaks and Laing said she didn't have a strenuous run in the Classic.
"They went around pretty subdued and the going only got tough from the corner home," he said.
"That was the only time she was under the pump.
"She's freshened up really well and her trackwork rider this morning couldn't believe how bouncy she was.
"It was only a week ago that she ran in the Oaks, but it's not a Sandown Guineas of old where you had your Caulfield Guineas winner and that in it.
"It's a field of progressive young horses, but we're fit and also back to her pet trip, 1400 metres to a mile."
With Chris Parnham having taken the ride aboard Shockaholic in Saturday's race, Laing has engaged Adelaide jockey Joe Bowditch.
Parnham rode The Grey Flash at her past three starts while Bowditch won the Sires' Produce Stakes on the filly in Adelaide.
"Chris had a tie-up with the owner who has horses in Perth with Neville Parnham," Laing said.
"Chris didn't know we were going to run, so he took another ride.
"Joe won on her in Adelaide, so we got him on when he was coming over."
