John Sadler poked his head into the stewards' room after Charmed Harmony had won a Group Three race at Sandown offering to buy them a beer.
The trainer had earlier approached stewards to withdraw Charmed Harmony from the Sandown Stakes on Saturday because he thought the track was too firm.
While noting Charmed Harmony was still capable of winning the race, Sadler was thinking more about the longevity for the six-year-old.
"I was concerned about the ground and because he won it doesn't alter how I feel," Sadler said.
"Today's track is a little bit too firm for my liking and it's about looking after the horses and their legs so we can go on and race them and they are not in pain when we do race them.
"I would love to see our tracks with a little bit more moisture in them."
Easy in the betting from $4.80 to $6, Charmed Harmony led throughout under Glen Boss to score by a neck from Tashbeeh ($8.50) with Burning Front ($7.50) a length away third.
Sadler said Charmed Harmony would now go for a break, bypassing an autumn campaign and return in the winter.
"I'd like to give him a really good break and maybe bring him back for the Winter Plate series or maybe go up to Queensland and have a crack at a couple of races up there," Sadler said.
