Trainer Tony Gollan believes there is plenty of improvement in Zelady's Night Out after she confirmed her rating as a top Magic Millions 2YO Classic hopeful at Doomben on Saturday.
As much as $2.70 was bet about Zelady's Night Out during the week but she went to the barriers as a $1.80 favourite in the $100,000 Listed Calaway Gal Stakes (1050m).
She was always going to justify the support after going straight to the front and beating Royal Tithe ($31) by 2-3/4 lengths.
Zelady's Night Out clocked 61.99 seconds for the 1050m compared with 62.04 run by Sundance in the colts and geldings Phelan Ready Plate.
Gollan said Zelady's Night Out had not raced for a month since her first-up win and had a short break at Washpool Lodge.
"She had a bit of belly on her today but she got the job done in style. I think that run will tighten her up a lot and she should have no trouble with the 1200 metres of the Magic Millions Classic," Gollan said.
He said he would decide in the next week whether to go straight into the Millions on January 9 or head to the BJ McLachlan Stakes at the Gold Coast on Boxing Day.
"We will sit back and have a good look at things. But we are in the great position of not having to rush her now she is definitely qualified for the Millions," Gollan said.
He said the way the Doomben track was playing towards leaders had helped Zelady's Night Out.
"But she is the ideal two-year-old because she can jump well, take a position and then sprint in the straight," Gollan said.
Winning jockey Jim Byrne agreed there was improvement in Zelady's Night Out who he said was pressured more than in her first win.
"She will definitely tighten up from that run," he said.
The win continued Gollan's great summer as it was his fifth stakes win since the carnival started late last month.
