Master Reset has convinced his trainer he is worthy of a start in stakes company before he ends a fruitful spring/summer campaign.

Matt Laurie changed plans to run Master Reset at Flemington on Saturday in favour of the Listed Lord Stakes at Caulfield on Boxing Day.

Master Rest took out the Wodonga Cup over 1590m at his last start on November 27 and Laurie is keen to test him at stakes level before he has a short spell.

The son of Reset won his first four starts and his victory at Wodonga was his sixth from 11 starts and his second from five attempts this preparation which has also yielded two thirds.

"I didn't really think he was a horse that was going to eventuate like he has," Laurie said.

"We've placed him as easily as we possibly could and he has just kept stepping up.

"He's got that real killer instinct, so that's more important than ability sometimes.

"We've all had horses with good speed in training but come race day they are never to be found, but this guy, he's a bit of a bulldog."

Laurie has so far restricted Master Reset's racing to around 1600 metres and is confident he can step up in distance next preparation.

He said the Lord Stakes, over 1700m, fitted in at the right time of year for the four-year-old and could be the right race to try him over a slightly longer trip.

"While he's been going so well around that distance we've elected to keep him to that trip," Laurie said.

Even if Master Reset can show Laurie he's worthy of stepping up further in grade he won't be tempted to throw him in at the deep end too soon.

"The Adelaide carnival in May could be a chance for him," he said.

"There might be something over there that could suit."
