Sebring Sun has failed to please trainer Gary Portelli and jockey Brenton Avdulla in a crucial gallop and will miss the Magic Millions Guineas.
The Group One placegetter had been among the leading contenders for the $2 million race at the Gold Coast next Saturday until he finished last in the Canterbury Classic.
Portelli had hoped that performance could be explained by a shifty track and gave gave him a week to get over it.
But after Avdulla worked Sebring Sun at Warwick Farm on Saturday morning, the trainer made the hard decision.
"His work was not what we wanted to see going into a big race," Portelli said.
"Brenton said he just went through the motions. We could have gone up there and he might have raced OK but we couldn't go with any confidence.
"We will have to regroup now. There is no plan B. His whole preparation was aimed the Magic Millions.
"Now we have to think about whether we get him ready for the autumn or just give him a spell."
