Fresh from a city treble at Moonee Valley, apprentice Jye McNeil heads to Sandown trying to keep the momentum going.

McNeil's three winners on Saturday moved him to within 17 of outriding his allowance and he has until the end of May to achieve it.

The 21-year-old has five rides at Sandown on Wednesday including the Vincent Malady-trained Tigidig Tigidig, early equal favourite for the Ladbrokes Cash In Handicap.

"Sandown is another track that I enjoy riding at and have a bit of luck at so hopefully tomorrow I can keep the roll going," McNeil said.

"It's an important time for me with only four or fives months left to go of my apprenticeship and with having 17 winners left, hopefully I can achieve my goal of outriding my claim."

McNeil has combined with Geelong trainer Vincent Malady for two city winners at Moonee Valley this season, with both of those being with the mare Appalachian Annie.

Appalachian Annie finished second in a 1000m race at Moonee Valley on Saturday and Malady is hoping Tigidig Tigidig can go one better on Wednesday.

Damien Thornton rode Tigidig Tigidig to a last-start third at Moonee Valley but he has recently finished his apprenticeship so the trainer opted instead for McNeil who can claim 1.5kg.

"Jye's going well and the couple of horses he's ridden for me he's done really well on them," Malady said.

"We thought we might as well go with Jye because he's riding well and he'll get in with the 59 kilos which will be a bit of a help."

The Robbie Griffiths-trained Prix D'Or, one of McNeil's other rides on the program in the Le Pine Funerals Handicap, is at $7 with the Robert Smerdon-trained Spreadeagled $4 favourite having won his two Australian starts at Sandown in December.
