Another Briish jockey wins in Victoria

Sunday 10 January 2016, 6:22pm

Just a day after champion British apprentice Tom Marquand won at Caulfield, another visiting English rider claimed his first victory at Warrnambool.

Kevin Stott, who is apprenticed to Luca Cumani, rode the Darren Weir-trained High Hostess to her maiden win on Sunday.

Stott said he was enticed to Australia by OTI's Terry Henderson who races horses with Cumani.

"I've been here about a month and I'm staying to the end of February," Stott told Racing.com.

"I'm really here for a bit of experience and so this is great.

"I've ridden 82 winners in England so I can't claim here."

Stott said the style of racing in Australia was different from England but he was getting used to it.

"It's very different," he said.

"They seem to go slow at the start and sprint at the end but I'm getting used to it."

Marquand is in Australia to spend a month with the David Hayes-Tom Dabernig stable as part of an international scholarship.

He made his Melbourne debut with a hard-fought victory on Tashbeeh on Saturday.
