Blake Shinn has secured a Karaka Million ride as part of strong book of Ellerslie mounts for training partners Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young.
Shinn has been confirmed as the jockey for Caorunn, a $10 chance in Sunday week's $NZ1 million race.
Caorunn has raced three times for Otaki and Awapuni wins that came after a narrow defeat at Ruakaka in September.
After winning at Awapuni on December 19, Caorunn confirmed he is on target for Ellerslie with a Cambridge barrier trial victory on Tuesday.
"We were 50-50 whether to send him to the trials or race him on Saturday and in the end we felt the trial fitted better," Busuttin told the NZ Racing Desk.
"He'll gallop at Ellerslie next Wednesday to have a look at the track.
"They always say you need at least one race at Ellerslie first but you look at the record of the Australian horses who are coming over and winning the race just about every second year and they haven't raced at Ellerslie before.
"And our fella is pretty professional."
Shinn, fresh from his Magic Millions win on Capitalist, will also ride Tavago in Listed NZB Karaka 3YO Mile as well as Predator and Petagon Achiever for the stable.
"I don't think there's anyone riding better in Australia at the moment than Blake," Busuttin said.
Caorunn is on the fifth line of Karaka Million betting behind last-start Group Three Eclipse Stakes winner Manolo Blahniq ($2.80).
Busuttin and Young will shift their training operation to Australia later this year when they open a stable at Cranbourne.
Since setting up at Cambridge, Busuttin has been a frequent visitor to Australia and he trained Sangster to win the 2011 Victoria Derby.
