Missing the start wasn't enough to stop Galaxy Raider at Sandown.
Both trainer Greg Eurell and jockey Chris Symons predict a bright future for the son of Hard Spun after his win on debut in The Cove Hotel Plate on Wednesday.
Eurell is now considering looking to better class races during the autumn with the three-year-old.
Easy in the betting, Galaxy Raider ($15) came with a powerful finish to score by a length from Zenon ($4.60) with Roseberry Street ($41) the same margin away third.
Eurell said Galaxy Raider had flown under the radar on the training track and in his trials because of greenness, but put it together on raceday.
"He's always worked very nicely without scorching the track," Eurell said.
"He's given us every indication that there's a little bit more but with greenness we haven't been able to find out what his ability is.
"We always thought racing would progress that along."
Eurell said he won't be rushed into getting Galaxy Raider back to the races after his debut win in the hot conditions at Sandown.
"He's going to make a lovely miler," Eurell said.
"He's got the right temperament and all the right attributes and is heading in the right direction.
"He's probably in at the right time so that we can get a bit of a guide.
"We may ease off a bit on the gas pedal and then have the opportunity to tackle a couple of the better races in the autumn."
Symons said the spacious Sandown layout suited the big-striding colt and like Eurell he can't wait for him to step out in distance.
