Lord Of The Sky set to trial at Cranbourne

Sunday 7 February 2016, 10:06am

Quality sprinter Lord Of The Sky will have his first serious hit-out since his recovery from a tendon injury when he runs in a barrier trial at Cranbourne.

Runner-up to Chautauqua in last year's Group One TJ Smith Stakes at Randwick, Lord Of The Sky hasn't raced since finishing at the tail of the field in the Bletchingly Stakes at Caulfield in July.

He injured a tendon during the race, prompting fears his racing career was over.

But the five-year-old has recovered well and trainer Robbie Laing is pleased with his progress.

Lord Of The Sky is scheduled to run in an 800m trial on Monday against Malaguerra, Azkadellia, Mourinho and Lumosty.

"He's had five or six gallops on the treadmill preparing for his return while on other days he's been working in the aquaciser," Laing said.

"It might be a week too early to have the trial but we'll see how he goes.

"We had the leg scanned on Tuesday and the tendon is all fine."

Laing said Lord Of The Sky could make his return in the Group One Oakleigh Plate (1100m) at Caulfield on February 27.

He said he would also like to return to Sydney for another tilt at the TJ Smith Stakes at Randwick on April 2.

Lord Of The Sky has won five of his 20 starts and amassed a further five second place finishes for earnings in excess of $900,000.

Other high quality horses set to make an appearance at the Cranbourne trials session include Our Ivanhowe, Politeness, Lizard Island, Scissor Kick, Noble Protector, Jameka, Pasadena Girl and Basset.
