Sarah Eilbeck an apprentice to watch

Sunday 7 February 2016, 3:24pm

Queensland apprentice Sarah Eilbeck is hoping her first metropolitan win can catapult her to bigger and better things.

After honing her skills on the country and provincial circuit, Eilbeck was granted her metropolitan licence last week and made an immediate impact on Burleigh Bullet at Doomben on Saturday.

Originally from the north of England where she rode in amateur races, Eilbeck moved to Australia almost five years ago.

After riding trackwork at several centres she settled on the Sunshine Coast and decided 18 months ago to try race riding.

Eilbeck, who is apprenticed to Andrew Williamson, had her first ride in August 2014 and since then has carved out a name for herself out of town.

In the past year she has ridden 69 winners including 32 this season capped by a treble at the Sunshine Coast two weeks ago.

"I have ridden about 75 winners all up," Eilbeck said.

"It was obviously a thrill to ride my first city winner and for Darryl Hansen who has supported me.

"All the Caloundra trainers have been supportive and I hope I can repay them."

Racing Queensland's jockey advocate Rachel Mason is certain Eilbeck can go a long way.

"She is a very hard worker and also listens to good advice," Mason said.

"They are two vital components to be a top apprentice and then jockey.

"Also she gave herself a solid grounding by riding on all types of different tracks in the last months."
