Apprentice James Orman had an extra reason to smile when he reached 100 Queensland winners for the season in record time.
Orman rode the first winner at Ipswich on Mizuki for Stuart Kendrick and then landed the next on Carda Mojo for his mother Caroline Allardyce.
He is apprenticed tohis mother at Gatton and she gave him his first metropolitan winner on Iniquity in July, 2014.
"They tell me it is a record and it was something special to do it for Mum," Orman said.
Orman's 100 winners came in less than seven months which was a week earlier than record holder champion Chris Munce set in 2011-12.
He will now set off after Munce's state record of 155 winners.
Orman's effort is all the more remarkable because he rarely rides for the top trainer Tony Gollan and only recently linked with the powerful Rob Heathcote stable.
