Ed Dunlop is looking forward to welcoming Trip To Paris back into training in May after issuing a positive update on the sidelined Gold Cup winner.
After winning the Chester Cup, the five-year-old won the Royal Ascot showpiece than travelled to Australia where he ran second in the Caulfield Cup and fourth in the Melbourne Cup.
He suffered a tendon injury in the Japan Cup after which he returned to Australia to continue his recovery.
Trip To Paris remains in Australia but Dunlop is not ruling out the possibility of defending his Gold Cup crown in mid-June.
"As has been documented, he got a tendon injury in the Japan Cup and he's actually in Australia now. We sent him to a tendon expert in Australia and the reports are very good," Dunlop said.
"He will return to me, I believe, at the beginning of May ready to start again.
"He's had a serious injury, unfortunately. If we can get him back on track there's the Gold Cup, but we'll see what condition he comes back in."
Dunlop said he was unsure whether Trip To Paris would return to Australia for the Melbourne spring carnival.
