Peter Robl after training milestone

Friday 29 April 2016, 12:35pm

Speedy mare Glenbawn Dame is poised to build on her last-start win for new trainer Peter Robl and give him his first stakes victory.

Glenbawn Dame runs as one of the leading contenders in Saturday's Listed Bribie Hcp (1050m) at Doomben after winning over 1100m at the same track two weeks ago.

A multiple Group One winning-jockey, Robl was forced out of the saddle when he injured his neck in a race fall two years ago.

After working as a foreman for David Vandyke and John Sargent preparing horses for Segenhoe Stud, Robl has held a trainer's licence in his own right since December with the former Toby Edmonds-trained Glenbawn Dame among the horses to join his Randwick stable.

"I've been given an opportunity to train for Kevin Maloney and Segenhoe so I am very fortunate," Robl said.

"Glenbawn Dame is a Segenhoe horse and obviously we would like to get some black type for her before she goes to stud.

Robl said barrier seven of 10 was not ideal for Glenbawn Dame but she had the gate-speed to be handy.

"I am told there is a bit of speed around her so if she can't lead she should be able to get a sit just off the pace," he said.

"She doesn't have to lead."

Stablemate Iggi Pop has returned to Sydney to continue his preparation for the Brisbane Cup on June 11.

"He will have his next start in either the Lord Mayor's Cup or the Wagga Cup before pressing on to the Brisbane Cup," Robl said.

"I thought he should have nearly won the Toowoomba Cup instead of running second and he is right on track."
