A lack of suitable races on the country circuit has forced Gerald Egan to concentrate on the city with the consistent Entre Nous.

The five-year-old is topweight, and favourite, for the L U Simon Builders Handicap at Caulfield on Saturday, looking for a third win from his past four starts.

"When they get up in the ratings like he is there's no races suitable races in the country," Egan said.

Entre Nous is rated 86 by Victorian handicappers and contests a benchmark 84 race on Saturday with his sole city win coming at Moonee Valley last month before he took out the Wangaratta Cup.

At his most recent start in the VOBIS Gold Mile at Caulfield on April 16 he finished third under Luke Nolen behind better credentialled gallopers Red Bomber and Zebrinz, at level weights.

"He was badly weighted there," Egan said.

"He was in the VOBIS scheme and it was worth good money so we took the chance."

Egan has engaged in-form apprentice Ben Allen who will take 3kg off the gelding's 61kg.

Allen rode Entre Nous to victory in the Euroa Cup at Benalla last November.

Egan said Jye McNeil had done a lot of the early work with the gelding before injury forced him out and Egan's fellow apprentice Mitch Aitken gained the ride.

"Mitch got on him in the Wangaratta Cup because Jye broke his leg at Bendigo the week before," Egan said.

"Mitch was in the right spot at the right time then Luke Nolen rode him last time because it was a non-claiming race.

"He's suspended and we feel it's a bit early for Mitch to go to town.

"Mitch got suspended before he won the Euroa Cup and Ben rode him that day, so he's had a ride on him and has been keen to get back on him since."
