A heavy track forced Tony McEvoy to shelve Warrnambool Cup plans with Lucky Lucky Lucky with the trainer looking to a staying race at Flemington.

Lucky Lucky Lucky was scratched from Thursday's Listed Warrnambool Cup over 2350m and McEvoy is set to run him in Saturday's 2800m handicap as long as the Flemington track isn't rain-affected.

"He hates the wet," McEvoy said.

"The Warrnambool Cup was his plan and it looked really promising until the rain came on Monday."

The trainer considers the longer distance of the Flemington race as a question mark for the recent Mornington Cup placegetter, saying he failed to stay over 3200m in an Adelaide Cup.

"I think he's a mile-and-a-half horse (2400m) so 2800 metres is a query," McEvoy said.

Lucky Lucky Lucky had his most recent start when third in the Mornington Cup on April 2 behind Berisha and fellow McEvoy-trained galloper Big Memory.

Since that race, McEvoy has given the gelding a hurdle trial at Warrnambool.

"He was just getting a bit bored so I thought I'd do something a bit different with him. And he enjoyed it," McEvoy said.

"It was also to give him a look around Warrnambool."

Lucky Lucky Lucky is considered among the main chances and McEvoy said the gelding was fit and well which gives him his chance.

"His run in the Mornington Cup was excellent," McEvoy said.

"That form is very strong and the horse seems to be in career-best form."

McEvoy has four horses entered for Saturday's Flemington program, with Miss Wynette back to mares' grade in the Mother's Day Handicap (2000m) while Mr Backchat and Scherzoso run in the Chairman's Club Handicap (1400m).

Scherzoso is first-up and McEvoy believes he can run well but improve out of the race.

Mr Backchat was blocked for a run in the straight, finishing ninth, in last Saturday's Listed City Of Adelaide Stakes.

"This is an afterthought," McEvoy said.

"He had no luck at all last Saturday in Adelaide. He's still looking for a run.

"There was nothing else for him in Adelaide so I thought I'd bring him over and back him up."
