Cup winner heads R A Lee Stakes entries

Tuesday 17 May 2016, 6:41am

The return of Melbourne Cup winner Prince Of Penzance is sure to create plenty of interest on one of South Australian racing's biggest days.

Saturday's meeting at Morphettville features the Group One Goodwood (1200m), but the Cup winner will be stepping out in the Group Three R A Lee Stakes (1600m).

He will again join forces with his Cup-winning jockey Michelle Payne when he has first start since the Flemington showpiece in November.

Prince Of Penzance headlines the 17 nominations for Saturday's set weights plus penalties race in which his Darren Weir-trained stablemates Tall Ship and Tonopah are also entered.

The Tony McEvoy-trained Alpine Eagle is set for his return from an injury lay-off.

Alpine Eagle, a Group Two winner and Group One placegetter, has not raced since last September after suffering a cracked pedal bone.
