Sydney apprentices Rory Hutchings and Koby Jennings have made hay while the sun shines in Queensland.
With most of the heavy hitters at the Brisbane winter carnival the two have seized their opportunities, riding five winners between them at Randwick on Saturday.
Hutchings will come out of his indentures after Monday's meeting at Canterbury with what looks like an unassailable 32-18 lead over Jennings in the apprentices' premiership.
"I'm looking forward to the transition to being a senior jockey," Hutchings said.
"I hope I've got enough wins to keep the lead in the premiership.
For Jennings, who rode four winners at Rosehill a week ago, Saturday was a milestone with his first stakes winner on Danish Twist in the Listed June Stakes.
"It's exciting to get that win," he said.
"I don't know about the premiership. I never thought I'd be in this position of being second in the Sydney apprentices' premiership.
