Chris Waller to split Rosehill entries

Monday 13 June 2016, 4:11pm

Chris Waller will rely on Loophole and Beyond Thankful in the 2000m-race at Rosehill with stablemate Dance Of Heroes earmarked for the Ipswich Cup.

With Dance Of Heroes heading north on Saturday, the Kensei Handicap looks like being a small field as he is one of just seven nominations taken on Monday.

Waller said the Listed Ipswich Cup (2150m) was a good option for Dance Of Heroes who would get his preferred firmer surface.

But the trainer also hopes Rosehill does not dry out too much for Beyond Thankful.

"He might have missed the wet track he's been looking for but hopefully not," Waller said.

"I thought Loophole might have won last start but that might have been a bit of second-up syndrome."

Beyond Thankful finished midfield at his most recent start in the McKell Cup on May 28 on a soft track while Loophole was third a week later over 1800m at Rosehill on the heaviest rated surface possible.

Beyond Thankful was also entered for Ipswich but his trainer said the best option was at home.

Waller also hopes to get Wine Tales to the races on Saturday after scratching her for the past two weeks because of wet tracks.

She is entered to run in a fillies and mares race over 1200 metres for her first start since December.

"We've had to scratch her waiting for a better track," Waller said.

"She is coming back from a throat operation and an operation to remove bone chips so we want things to be right for her."

As a three-year-old, Wine Tales raced against top company including her stablemate Winx who has gone on to become the best in Australia this season.

Wine Takes hasn't won since October 2014 when she beat another stablemate Good Project, winner of the Group One Railway Stakes in Perth in November.

Despite her lack of success, Wine Tales has racked up nine minor placings and almost $300,000 prize money.
