Vergara looking to bow out a winner

Monday 27 June 2016, 2:46pm

Vergara's first start for Gerald Ryan will also be her last and the trainer is keen to send her out a winner.

After Vergara runs in Saturday's Listed Civic Stakes (1350m) at Rosehill she will head across the Tasman to get ready for the breeding barn where she has a date with sire-of-the-moment Tavistock.

"She runs on Saturday and goes to New Zealand on Monday to be served by Tavistock," Ryan said.

"I've been happy with her and it would be great if she could win her last start."

Trained by Anthony Cummings for two stakes wins, Vergara fetched $460,000 at last month's broodmare sale in Sydney.

Her new owners include Victoria's Blue Gum Farm which stands Turffontein, a half brother to Vergara's dam Graces Spirit.

Vergara was one of 10 entries taken on Monday for the feature sprint with Ninth Legion the highest-rated.

The last-start winner of the Eye Liner Stakes at Ipswich, Ninth Legion is also nominated for the Glasshouse Handicap at the Sunshine Coast on Saturday.

Ryan will have three runners in the 1500m-benchmark 78 for three-year-olds at Rosehill - Don't Doubt Marley, Rosettas Whey and Suboric.

Don't Doubt Marley ran home strongly after being hampered at the start of a 1200m-race at Rosehill last Saturday week when she finished fifth, a length from the winner Butterboom.

"She's done well since that race but is going to 1500 metres for the first time so it is a question mark," Ryan said.

"Suboric is going really well and is stepping up from two provincial wins.

"Rosettas Whey is also stepping up from a Newcastle win."

Ryan also has Argie Bargie entered in the 2YO Hcp (1400m) with the filly also an acceptor at Warwick Farm on Wednesday.

Saturday's Listed Winter Cup (2400m) had just seven entries on Monday headed by the Chris Waller-trained Index Linked and Junoob who are both also nominated for the Caloundra Cup at the Sunshine Coast.

Index Linked won Saturday's Group Three Tattersall's Cup at Eagle Farm in which Junoob finished last of the eight runners.
