Pin Your Hopes is set to race on a quick back up at Caulfield, with connections hoping his recent return to winning form continues.

The Matthew Ellerton and Simon Zahra-trained six-year-old had a two-year period without breaking through for another win but has been successful in two of his past three starts, with a second placing in between.

A victory at Cranbourne on heavy ground last month was Pin Your Hopes' first win since May 2014.

After a Sandown placing he then produced a hard-fought victory in a benchmark-78 over 1600m last Saturday at Flemington after being headed in the straight.

Pin Your Hopes is the early favourite for Saturday's Crown Golden Ale Handicap (1700m) at Caulfield where he is stepping up in grade and also slightly in distance.

"He's come through last Saturday's run quite well," Zahra said.

"He's backed up before and won. It was a reasonably quick back up of 10 days between races when he won last week."

Zahra said the soft tracks were aiding Pin Your Hopes at this time of year and also he seems to be enjoying spending his days in one of the small paddocks the co-trainers have at their stables.

"We've got a couple of paddocks and he just stays out there during the day and it just keeps him moving during the day," Zahra said.

"Some of those older horses, they get a bit stale in the box, and it's just something a bit different.

"I think the soft tracks have also really helped him.

"I think the firmer tracks stopped him and he lost his confidence. But now he's letting go."

Zahra said Pin Your Hopes gets in nicely again with apprentice Ben Thompson's 3kg claim to offset his 58kg.

"There wasn't a lot else around for him two or three weeks after last start, so we're happy to run him again on Saturday," Zahra said.

"He's in good form and then there's another race for him in three weeks."
