Cavanough move pays immediate dividends

Saturday 2 July 2016, 12:38pm

Brett Cavanough has trained his first metropolitan winner since a temporary move to Queensland.

The Monstar was far too classy for his rivals in the Yalumba Wines Handicap, scoring a two length win over Tisani Tomso at the Sunshine Coast.

Cavanough's usual base is at Albury in the NSW Riverina, but with that track being renovated he is planning a base at Scone in NSW the Hunter Valley.

But in the meantime he will campaign with a team of 20 in Queensland from stables at Toowoomba.

"The Monstar has been something of a professional placegetter but he had a bit on them," Cavanough said.

"We will probably stick with Brisbane races but I will chuck in a nomination for the Ramornie Handicap at Grafton (on July 13)," Cavanough said.

Toowoomba jockey Skye Bogenhuber made a rare trip to a metropolitan meeting to win on The Monstar.
