Trainer Mick Price admits two-year-old Yu Long Sheng Hui still has plenty to learn but is preparing to aim high with the colt.
Yu Long Sheng Hui maintained an unbeaten start to his career when he backed up a six-length maiden win at Wodonga with a narrow city victory at Caulfield in his second start on Saturday.
Sent out a $3.70 chance in the Catanach's Jewellers Handicap, Yu Long Sheng Hui raced three-wide in the eight-horse field before holding off his challengers, the dead-heaters Wazzenme and Navagio.
"He's very green but we've got a good opinion of him," Price said.
"He's going out now to get ready for the spring races.
"It looks like he's got no idea and only racing will improve him."
Price said given he has spring aspirations with the colt, he doesn't have the time to continue racing him further into winter to keep honing his racecraft.
"It's a bit of a concern how much he's going to learn from today, but that's OK," he said.
"He's on the right track and physically he's got some ability. So we'll be confident and set him for the spring."
Jockey Dale Smith wasn't concerned when he was trapped three-wide and said Yu Long Sheng Hui had a good look around in the straight.
But he believes the colt warrants being considered a Caulfield Guineas contender.
"We think he's got good ability, it's just he's doing it all on raw talent at the moment," Smith said.
