Hampton Court
Spendthrift Farm’s shuttle stallions are in quarantine in Kentucky in readiness for their return flights to Victoria next month.
Hampton Court (Redoute’s Choice) has just finished his first northern book and Spendthrift is looking forward to his first southern foals in August.
He was a $500,000 buy at the 2013 Inglis Easter yearling sale for Gai Waterhouse and scored a signature victory in the Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes (2000m) setting a new course record of 2.00.19s at Randwick.
Warrior’s Reward (Medaglia d’Oro) was the most popular of Spendthrift’s foundation stallions at Romsey last year and he’s currently 6th on the North American third-crop premiership with 43 winners of $1.8 million in prizemoney.
Jimmy Creed (Distorted Humor), winner of the Group 1 Malibu Stakes (1400m) at Santa Anita, has his first yearlings catalogued for the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky Sale starting on July 12.
They have been entered by industry heavyweights Gainesway Farm and Vinery Sales as agent for Spendthrift. Among them is Lot 170, a colt from Listed Lady Mannequin Stakes winner Chitka (Jade Hunter).
Can the Man ((Into Mischief) will not shuttle this year.
“He’s a precocious and exceptional-looking son of our up-and-coming sire Into Mischief and covered 114 mares first-up in Kentucky last year,” Spendthrift owner B. Wayne Hughes said.
“However, he wasn’t as well received in Australia so we did not feel it would be to anyone’s advantage to bring him back in 2016.”
The Victorian-based farm said it will waive the 2015 service fee for all breeders who supported Can the Man in his first season a year ago. Spendthrift Australia has also held discussions with all “Share The Upside” program participants of Can The Man to receive a complimentary service to one of its other stallions in 2016.
“Spendthrift will always strive to put the breeders’ best interests first, and we will continue to try, and offer stallions and programs, from which the breeders of Australia can prosper.”
Service fees for Spendthrift Australia’s 2016 stallion roster are: Hampton Court ($8,800 inc gst), Jimmy Creed ($8,800 inc gst) and Warrior’s Reward ($11,000 inc gst).
