Pluck
Vinery stallion Pluck (USA) sired his 7th first-crop winner with Happy Go Plucky at Cessnock's Jungle Juice Cup meeting on Tuesday.
The Allan Denham trained youngster settled midfield second-up on a Heavy 8 and then found a split at the top of the straight to hold out And There Is More (Mossman) in the Hunter Valley Wine & Tourism 2YO Hcp (1150m).
Happy Go Plucky went out at double-figure odds after struggling on a bottomless track at Muswellbrook last month.
"That was a big improvement on his debut run," jockey Robert Thompson said. "He goes all right and might have a nice future."
Happy Go Plucky (2g Pluck - Dirty by Hussonet) was bred by Vinery partner Greg Perry from Dirty, winner of Listed Vo Rogue Plate at Doomben. The gelding is a half-brother to minor winners by Northern Meteor and. Congrats.
"I didn't think he was ready today so it was a good win," Denham admitted.
"The owners are friends of mine from Queensland and they backed him each-way. He's still immature and I will probably send him out for a spell now."
Pluck (USA), an exceptionally fast 2yo over the mile is a permanent resident at Vinery and stands alongside his sire More Than Ready for a $9,900. (inc gst) service fee.
