Code Noir to make comeback at Doomben

Friday 8 July 2016, 3:17pm

Trainer Matt Dunn is hoping his patience will pay off when the promising Code Noir makes his return to racing after a 15-month break.

Code Noir won his first two starts in brilliant fashion but failed behind Upstart Pride in a Gold Coast metropolitan standard race on March 15 last year and subsequently underwent throat surgery.

He will make his comeback in the first of a series of Class 3 Plates to be run at Saturday metropolitan meetings at Doomben and Eagle Farm in coming months.

The aim is to keep race fields solid with the cutback in prize money for Brisbane racing.

Dunn said he had taken his time with Code Noir following his wind operation.

"I have given him two trials and he has been placed in both. I have scratched him a few times recently because I wanted to be patient and get the right race," Dunn said.

"Jeff Lloyd will ride him and he has drawn well so let's hope the patience pays off."

Meanwhile, premiership-winning trainer Tony Gollan will return from a holiday in Bali on Saturday morning and head straight to Doomben.

Gollan has light numbers by his usual standards at Doomben but is keen to watch promising three-year-old The Umbrellaman run in the Class Three Plate.

"He hasn't won first up but he did trial OK at Deagon last month," Gollan said.
