Two-year-old Sebrikka has shown a stubborn streak before her race at Caulfield but once she was out on the track the filly's abundant talent was on show.
Sebrikka wasn't keen to leave the mounting yard before Saturday's TROA Supports Jockeys Trust Handicap, which is something David Hayes says they will have to continue working on before she reappears early in the new season for a spring campaign.
"Pre-race she's a bit of a worry but during a race there's not much to worry about - she's pretty good," Hayes said after Sebrikka rushed home to score a narrow win in the 1200m race.
"She shows as much fight getting to the line as she does going out.
"At Lindsay Park we have to change the way we take her to trackwork quite regularly, and she is a bit of a trick. But if we can get on top of that I think we've got a really good filly."
After settling back in the ruck in the 1200m race Sebrikka was strong late, chasing down Wazzenme who had sprinted to the front early in the straight.
She ($3.40 fav) got home by a neck from Wazzanme ($4.60) with a length to Havildar ($9) third.
Hayes said Sebrikka was likely not to race for at least the next month with a view to spring.
"I think she can go to another level at seven furlongs and a mile," he said.
Apprentice Regan Bayliss said Sebrikka was loaded with ability.
